Flight Test!

It's a grainy video.  I was using my old cell phone.

Chicken Wranglin'

Boys Catching Chickens

The boys love to catch the chickens and hold them.  I think the chickens like it.  Even the rooster, Pete (PD), is friendly.

Just in case you were curious

One last post about the last group of chickens.  I did get evidence of the marauder.  Below are pictures I took with my cellphone of the footprints that I found near the coop.  I took these pictures the same day as the indecent, so there has been no time lapse.

After much discussion I think that the suspect(s) must be a coyote or two.  Let me know if you have any thoughts.  I traced the footprint in the bottom picture to show the footprint better.

That's a John Deere Lawn Tractor Key for size proportioning.
Coyote, fox, dog, bear, panther, bobcat, wolf, Sasquatch or something else.  What do you think?

The NEW GROUP!

Here are a few pictures of the new group of birds.  They are bantam size chickens just like the old ones, but different breeds; Silver Sebrights and Golden Sebrights.  Actually the Golden Sebrights were supposed to be Buff Brahmas but I think they got it wrong at the store.  Oh well, no harm done.

Oops, that's a Guinea Pig.

Here is a picture of the new Chicks.

Just a few days old, pretty cute.

They have actually grown since the picture above.  Today we took them outside for the first time.  The really enjoyed seeing the world.  One actually flew from the ground up into my hands.  I think they may be a bit nicer than the last group.

Here a few pictures of the boys and the chickens outside.

They are really pretty.  Next time I'll use a better camera than my five year old phone.

A Random Picture...

to remember the old flock.

Alot has happened since my last post!

OK, so I haven't written much lately.  Well here is what has happened since the last post in a few short sentences.

Chickens grow up.  Gummy is a noisy rooster and chases the kids, its really funny.  Gummy chases kids again, dog chases gummy.  Hens lay lots of eggs.  We eat lots of eggs.  Dog chases chickens, pins Gummy down for the death blow, I save Gummy.  Chickens roam yard during day and sleep in the coop at night.

Then chickens meet a tragic end as I and the family are off at a party.  Coyotes eat all six chickens.  Nothing left but feathers!

Time to start over.  Now we have six new chickens.  Three Bantam Buff Brahmas and three Bantam Silver Sebrights.  They are now two weeks old.  I will post pictures and details  soon.

Eggs!!!!!!!!!

The day has finally come.  We have egg producing hens!  These are the first two eggs.  I guess that means that two of the five hens have begun laying.  These eggs are shown in a "extra-large egg" egg carton to give you a sense of our eggs' size compared to the grocery store.

Our boys weren't too excited about eating them.  They want to hatch the eggs.  I think they'll get used to it as we continue to get new eggs every day for the next year or so.

I am really excited about this.  I'll let you know how they taste in the next entry.
